Kayla Warren

Hi, my name is Kayla and I have been working with children and their families for 10+ years. Most recently, I spent 6 years with the IWK as part of the Early Intensive Behavioural Intervention team, working with children, and their families, in their homes, childcare settings, and communities. Through this role, I saw the need for, and lack of, mental health services for children, youth, and adolescents in Nova Scotia. Having returned to school, I am now a Registered Counselling Therapist (Candidate) through the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists. I hold a Child and Youth Care Worker Diploma (Eastern College), Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (StFX), and a Masters of Counselling Psychology (Yorkville). In addition to my formal education, I have completed the Foundations of Child Centred Play Therapy and am working towards my certification in Play Therapy.

I believe play allows children to engage in a comfortable, and familiar, form of expression to make meaning of experiences that may be challenging to share otherwise. I use a relational and integrative person-centred approach with my clients, meeting each child where they are in any given moment. I believe it is important that each child have a safe, non-judgemental, and attuned person to help them work through some of life’s stressors. I strongly believe in the importance of engaging the child’s support system as part of the collaborative therapeutic process to help strengthen the support both inside and outside of the therapeutic setting. I bring an attachment lens to my sessions that aims to provide children a sense of security, regulation, and resilience in order to feel safe to explore the world.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time camping, swimming and laughing with my husband and two children. I look forward to meeting you and embarking on a journey to help you reach your goals.
